Bellingham rings in the festive quarter with Michelangelo International Wine Awards performance
Iconic South African wine brand Bellingham, situated in Franschhoek, has yet again shown its world-class pedigree and the universal appeal of its wines at the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards, securing 89+ ratings for two of its wines.
Judges' verdict? Douglas Green worth its weight in solid (double) gold
Semillon, the white grape known for its alluring fruit profile and complexity of flavour, is not quite as familiar with wine consumers in South Africa as in its native France. Locally it is rather better known as a blending grape with especially Sauvignon Blanc, but a single varietal rendition from Franschhoek Cellar has left the judges spellbound at this year's Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show. The Franschhoek Vineyards Semillon 2014 was crowned as the best example of the cultivar at this year's competition, receiving the Trophy for Best Semillon at the awards ceremony earlier this week.

The 10th edition of the Syrah du Monde® international wine competition, organised by Forum Œnologie, has just come to an end. Over the course of three days, international experts tasted 374 Syrah/Shiraz wines from all over the world. Diversity and quality are the watchwords for the 2016 winners, which comes as no surprise for a grape variety currently enjoying rapid growth.
