The 2010 vintage christened the revamped winery.
At Franschhoek Cellar we strive to capture the authentic and vibrant soul of our beautiful wine valley. We try as far as possible to let the grapes speak for themselves with as little manipulation as possible through the winemaking process.
As an important pillar within the Franschhoek wine community, we consider our wines ambassadors representing the true nature and diversity of this magnificent region. That is why we go to great lengths to express the true origins and character of each variety.
Our wines are intended for honest enjoyment without lavish clutter or complication, yet without being simple either. We advocate full ripe fruit expressions with sufficient restraint to maintain grace and charm. Oaking is always discreet and integrated.
The Douglas Green winemaking team has a modern, innovative and creative approach dedicated to creating lifestyle wines true to the needs of our local and international market and our promise of ‘Cape wine at its best’.
Our drive for quality demands talent and ambition from our well-synchronized and dedicated viticultural and oenology team who pay careful attention to selection of grapes first and foremost and then yeasts and fermentation methods best suited for the ultimate varietal style required.
This challenge is met by managing and controlling the process from the vineyard to the bottle. Winemaking takes place in various appointed partner cellars in the various regions eventually arriving at our blending cellar in Wellington. Recent large scale investment in our world class blending cellar has advanced our resources and capacity tremendously placing us at the forefront of quality volume wine production in South Africa.
